Music

At Old Bexley, we value the part music plays in the children's education.  Through music, the children learn to work with others and understand the value of practice and perseverance.  The children can take part in regular concerts and performances.

Here is a list of the opportunities we offer:

Choir:

KS2 choir meets on Wednesdays at 3.30pm-4.30pm in the KS2 Hall.  Anyone in years 3-6 is welcome to join.

Orchestra:

The school orchestra (Years 4-6) meets once a week on a Wednesday from 8.30-9.15am.  Attendance is by invitation only.

Musical Instruments:

Djembe drumming lessons are offered to pupils in KS2 on a Tuesday after school.  Please contact Mr Dadson via the school office if you are interested.

Currently we offer lessons on violin, viola, flute, clarinet and some brass instruments.  The lessons are taught in small groups by teachers from Bird College. Please contact Mrs Kibby at the school for further information.

There is a charge for musical instrument lessons, but no money is payable for choir or orchestra.

Sports Competitions

At Old Bexley we teach the children to appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.  Alongside our broad and balanced PE Curriculum, children have access to a variety of sports and after school clubs.

We employ Specialist PE Teachers, Coaches and Play Specialists to ensure children are achieving and gaining an understanding of the importance of team work and co-operation.

We also create links and good relationships with local Secondary schools and Community clubs providing additional opportunities to support children's growth in sport.

These cross curricular activities have a positive influence on academic achievement, self esteem and well being.

School Games Mark Award: We are very proud to have been awarded the Platinum School Games Mark Award for our commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport in the 2022/23 academic school year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Old Bexley are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded.
